From 14 to 22 March 2009, the countries with the French language in common to make appointments during the week of the Francophonie. For this 14th edition, fifty events (concerts, conferences, exhibitions, readings, games) will be held in China, including 27 in Beijing. The Francophone countries are invited to celebrate the French language in all its forms and diversity.

In Beijing, two themes will be honored: the cities and the French islands.

There are 50 000 to 70 000 students learning French in China, and their number continues to increase: 3 to 6 000 in secondary schools, about 30 000 to the university, about 16 500 in the network Alliances and French at least as many structures in the private and semi-private. There are about 750 Chinese teachers of French and about 200 readers of French. There are currently 12 French Alliances in Mainland China and a Hong Kong and Macao. In primary and secondary interest in French as a second foreign language option is increasing.
