The Iranian reformist Khatami will stand for presidential

The former reformist president of Iran, Seyed Mohammad Khatami, has announced his decision on Sunday to attend the next presidential election, reports the news agency semi-official Mehr.

“I am announcing honestly here, my candidature for the elections,” Khatami said during a news conference, adding: “I am announcing that from the beginning until now, despite of what has been said, I never hesitated (my decision).

“My hesitation was how to participate in the election,” he said.

There have been rumors in recent months that Mr. Khatami was reluctant to attend the presidential election to be held next June 12.

Khatami, 66, was Iran’s president between 1997 and 2005.

Two others, including the leading Iranian cleric, Mehdi Karroubi, twice President of the Parliament and ranked in the reformist camp, also announced their candidacy for president.

伊朗改革派哈塔米将竞选总统

哈塔米66,是伊朗1997年至2005年总统。
